Bowed 02:25
Saw the night disappear into day. I fell asleep and it seemed ok, but it's not. No, it's not coming back. Close you're eyes and we'll walk on down past the rocks till the ocean is found. And I'm trying here. I'm trying here to think of you. Wait, please help. I'm lonely and I'm trying to fail. Take them back, these moments all mired in loss. Soon my thoughts will cycle back and settle on you.

Brass Tacks 03:14
Show me the road, and I'll come right back... Thinking you will still be Waiting at home while I'm on highways Tell me love is still love. I am not who we thought I'd be So sorry to disappoint. Carry my soul in your hands, I'm just a ghost in traffic staring blankly ahead. Carry my soul in your words, I'm just a ghost in traffic staring blankly ahead. Can anyone hear me through your words? Can anyone hear me through your words? Wait, I think you are leaving and I have yet to see your face. Don't stay for a minute and then push out, I'm out of place. Take you on a cruise. Take you on a cruise. Take you on a cruise. Take you on a cruise. Take you on a cruise. Show me the road, and I'll come right back... Thinking you will still be Waiting at home while I'm on highways Tell me love is still love. I am not who we thought I'd be So sorry to disappoint.

The radio is playing all the same songs. It brings me back to lost details of my life. highways paved just to take me home. these t.v. shows are taking more of my time my feet are stuck and fail me in the long run highways help make you disappear. through the tunnels: disappear. through the back roads: disappear. with a last kiss: disappear. She doesn't love you, Sean. She doesn't love you, Sean. All of the plans have died. All of my hopes have dried up in the sun. Sit up on the roof and listen to the neighbors play those sad songs again. Sit up on the roof and listen to the neighbors play those sad songs again.

Still 02:48
I'm coming up straight for you And I am not here to please. More than a lot to do Climb through dreams And I cant hide. And the rain comes And the flood comes Rushing in tonight. My head is on fire again As the dreams come through these thick walls And the figures take what they want from me. And I love you still. Yes, I love you still.

Bethlehem, such a long way away from here. All of the love in the world won't bring you back. I want you back without the halos. I need the flaws you've got.

Longest Love 03:20
I know that my pics have been taken down, and locked in a drawer hid away from the daylight, forevermore. I'm sure you get fucked whenever you desire and loved by the stranger's hands and kissed on the cheek before you sleep with the stillest mind alive. And I, in this room, for the thousandth time croon for a love that's now failed. for the longest love: failed. yes, the longest love: failed. it's the longest love: failed. I dream in the winter of the fall All the leaves on the ground tell me that I can change too. And all of the love I have found It's just a respite from the loss. I'm cycling back now to you, to face my loss. It's just the longest, the longest love.

The Radio 03:51
I wake in the morning into a new space that's both familiar and distant from that which was once part of me. There's no phone to answer. There's no one asking me to please walk the dog, and do I want to lay down and watch some T.V. To say that I miss you... it's just a big joke, like trying to convince you that I love you more than you love me. You can't hear this on the radio. You can't hear this on the radio. You can't hear this on the radio.

Keep a camera. Keep a camera. Keep a camera pointed at my heart. I am nowhere. I am nowhere. You can keep time, you can't keep all of it. You can breathe time, you can't breathe all of it. Please make it stop, please let it start. Take a photograph that I can keep in my back pocket. Take this one true thing and hide away in your back closet. I could have dreamed all of this long ago. I could have loved you more than you could know. All of these pipe dreams, I had yet to vet Before the fall. Before the fall. Before the fall.

Lottery 04:53
Is it a lie to call my simple heart desperate? I won the lottery but you are nowhere to be found. Tell me hi, tell me goodnight. I want to try, but i just can't get it started. Is it a lie to call my simple heart desperate? I won the lottery but you are nowhere to be found. Tell me hi, tell me goodnight. I want to try, but i just can't get it started. Make a plan. Make a change. I need to find my own way home. Tell me when. Tell me where, I will be there with a smile and a heart that's open wider than you could dream. Make a plan. Make a change. I need to find my own way home. Take a walk towards the downtown buzz to throw my hands up. Recognize your face in a crowd and put my head down. I know that we are over now. I know that we are over now.

All the places I have been have come to take me home. All the letters i don't write have come to take me home. All the memories you'll forget have come to take me home. Its a small price to pay for a love that lasted so long. Its a small price to pay for a love that lasted so long. Its a small price to pay for a love that lasted so long. And we will be ok... Through the bottles and the Pennsylvania whispers. I'm on my way home. And we will be ok... Me with bottles and you with your new lover, I'm on my way home. And we will be ok... Through the bottles and the Pennsylvania whispers. I'm on my way home. All the places I have been have come to take me home.

In the wake of this morning's conversation I walk out into the light. Not a bird was chirping, not a cloud up in the sky. And these are empty dreams of highway lives... Are glowing past one another, again. How are we driving home tonight? You don't want to think it over one last time before you say you're sure. I know you're ok.

about

River, Braided was written and recorded over a span of six months, February to August, in 2009. The songs rarely emerged fully formed, but rather, were strung together as one musical idea led to another and another. Each additional layer served to flesh out and (re)define the emerging track. In this way, the ill-defined roles of songwriting, recording, engineering and production became lumped together as nothing more than music-making. Everything was done using pretty cheap gear in a studio apartment in Gainesville, FL. It's an album that's been sitting around for a while, and now, tentatively shared.
